Your CDE is Now Your Diabetes Care and Education Specialist!

The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (formerly AADE) recognizes a broader range of expertise and support in diabetes care
The American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) is now the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES). The National Certification Board of Diabetes Care and Education updated its name at the same time, meaning that a certified diabetes educator (CDE) is now called a certified diabetes care and education specialist (CDCES).
This change aims to increase awareness about the many roles that diabetes care and education specialists (formerly called “diabetes educators”) play in providing services to people with diabetes and prediabetes, including direct care, education, prevention, and ongoing support. The name change decision came from years of conversations on how to make diabetes care and education specialists more available to people who would benefit from working with them.
The mission of the ADCES is to make sure that all people with diabetes and prediabetes (and other cardiometabolic conditions) have access to care that involves a diabetes care and education specialist.
If you have diabetes, this won’t change your care team. It just means that your CDE is now your DCES. However, the shift will allow ADCES to better advocate for access to care and education for the diabetes community, by working with partner organizations, government, healthcare professionals, and payers.
