We’re planning big changes for diaTribe – but we need your help!
It feels like just yesterday, but it was actually the summer of 2006 when we sat down to compile the first issue of diaTribe. There were only two of us in that initial meeting, diaTribe had only six columns, and our advisory board only numbered ten members (as amazing as they were!). Dr. Steve Edelman, head of TCOYD, and renowned San Diego endocrinologist was the first doctor that we asked - he said yes, without hesitation. To be honest, we were unsure how diaTribe would be received. We embarked with one primary goal: to share our knowledge of diabetes with those who needed it most - patients. At our company, Close Concerns, our "day job" was to travel the world collecting information and insights on diabetes and obesity, and we shared them with professionals of all stripes - doctors, scientists, researchers, the people who run the companies that make the products all of us use. We felt sure that patients would be interested in some of this material...
Today, diaTribe includes over 10 different columns and is subscribed to by over 15,000 people with diabetes. We greatly appreciate our advisory board, now 37 strong, that has continued to grow, most recently with Davida Kruger (Henry Ford Health System, whom we interviewed in diaTribe #1) and with Dr. Karin Hehenberger (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), both major diabetes advocates and strong agents for change.
Just as our understanding of diabetes and obesity continues to change, we hope diaTribe will continue to evolve, to best meet the needs of our readers.
Toward that end, I would like to ask you for your help. We are planning to make some meaningful changes to diaTribe in the near future - and we need your input! To make your reading of it as valuable as possible, we would love to hear your comments through our annual reader survey. The survey should take only about 10 minutes. Last year, your input resulted in a number of improvements: we have added new sources of expertise (namely, Gary Scheiner and multiple new advisors), we've expanded your favorite feature, NewNowNext, and we have experimented publishing more frequently, your biggest request Above all, we truly appreciate your feedback - thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, for your time, and for help making diaTribe what it is today. But we want to make it better, and with your continued support and assistance, we will.
Here's to making a better life for us all.
Appreciatively,
Kelly L. Close
