Join Study to Help Inform Type 2 Diabetes and Prediabetes Research
By Julia Kenney
Calling all adults with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes: The T2Help study is recruiting 280 participants for a 16-week virtual clinical trial to collect continuous glucose monitor (CGM), activity tracker, and self-recorded health data.
Clinical trials identifier: NCT04503239
Diabetes type: Type 2 diabetes and prediabetes
What is the trial testing?
The T2Help clinical trial is an observational study that will collect and compare health data from people with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. All trial participants will be given a Dexcom G6 continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and an activity tracker to wear for three months. Participants will electronically log their medication and food intake daily.
Researchers will collect data on glucose levels, sleep, exercise, heart rate, diet, and medication intake.
Why is this new and important?
CGM technology is currently indicated for people with diabetes who use insulin. It’s also expensive, and most health insurance plans don’t cover the costs. As such, CGM use is still not common among people with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes. So, this study will provide information on how glucose levels vary and how people with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes manage their glucose. In addition to glucose levels, the observational study will compile data on lifestyle patterns and medication regimens. This data may be helpful for informing future diabetes treatments.
If you don’t currently use CGM, this could be a good opportunity to try and help diabetes research in the process.
Trial length: 16 weeks
Trial location: The trial is recruiting in California, Nevada, New York, Oregon, and Texas.
