Help People with Type 2 Diabetes With the “You’ve Got This!” Campaign
#DiabetesEmpowerment: support people with type 2 diabetes by uploading a motivating video, photo, or quote!
The diaTribe Foundation has partnered with Healthline, a wellness and health information site, for the “You’ve Got This!” campaign in order to raise awareness for type 2 diabetes. The campaign encourages people with type 2 diabetes to upload videos, photos, or supportive quotes about their own experience living with type 2 diabetes. These are then shared on Healthline for people recently diagnosed or anyone else seeking emotional support for their diabetes. It is also a simple way to support the diaTribe team - for every video, photo, or quote that is submitted, Healthline will donate $10 to The diaTribe Foundation.
The campaign’s goal is to create a community where people with diabetes can connect with others who have gone through similar experiences in the past, providing a platform for emotional support. Furthermore, through raising awareness for type 2 diabetes, “You’ve Got This!” hopes to increase public knowledge about diabetes and ultimately decrease stigma.
How You Can Get Involved
There are two ways to get involved in the You’ve Got This campaign:
-
Submit a video: People with type 2 diabetes can submit an encouraging video message to the “You’ve Got This” video series. Record a video of two minutes or less, upload it to YouTube, and share it on the “You’ve Got This!” campaign page. The videos will be posted on Healthline.com and also featured on Healthline’s “Living with Diabetes” Facebook page.
-
Submit a photo or inspirational quote: People can also participate in the campaign by sharing photos or inspirational quotes. These photos or quotes can be submitted at Healthline’s “You’ve Got This!” page or tagged on Instagram with the hashtag #DiabetesEmpowerment.
By leveraging the power of social media to connect patients around the world, this campaign has the potential to provide emotional support for those with type 2 diabetes. There is evidence supporting the role of the internet and social media in coping with chronic disease; indeed, a Pew Research study showed that 23% of people with chronic diseases seek peer medical support online, and 59% of people find non-medical professionals better at helping provide emotional support for health issues. Healthline has run “You’ve Got This!” campaigns in the past in other therapeutic areas such as HIV, multiple sclerosis, bipolar disorder, and more, and diaTribe is proud to play a role in bringing this campaign to people with type 2 diabetes.
