This upcoming March 15, Carb DM, the Greater Bay Area Chapter of JDRF, and Diabetes Youth Families are teaming up to host the Bay Area Diabetes Summit for people with type 1 diabetes. The day will run from 9 am to 3 pm in Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward, CA and it will feature a jam-packed schedule of type 1 topics and star speakers. Speakers in the morning include Charlie Kimball, the first driver with type 1 diabetes to win a race in the IZOD IndyCar Series; Dr. Stayce Beck of the FDA to discuss diabetes innovation; Dr. Susan Guzman of the Behavioral Diabetes Institute on the emotional side of diabetes; Dr. Matthias Hebrok of Diabetes Center UCSF on advances in stem cell research; and Dr. Bruce Buckingham of Stanford University, who will look at closed-loop systems.

The afternoon will be separated into five tracks: parents of teens, parents of newly diagnosed children, a celiac track, a track for hackers, techies, and geeks, and one for Spanish speakers. All in all, it looks like there will be something for everyone at the summit. There will even be a Kids Camp hosted during the day by Diabetes Youth Families! diaTribe will also have a table at the summit and we look forward to seeing you there – to get more information and to register, please visit www.bayareadiabetessummit.eventbrite.com. –NL
